Garrett Gomez celebrates Beholder's all-the-way success
Garret Gomez gave Beholder a fantastic front-running ride as Richard Mandella's charge landed the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies.
Connections had been considering taking on the colts in the Juvenile Sprint but opted to come here instead, a decision that was rewarded with a stylish success.
Gomez increased the tempo turning in and soon had all his rivals in trouble with the exception of Executiveprivilege.
That filly, who had beaten the winner twice before looked a huge threat down the centre of the track but could never get on terms as Beholder held on gamely in the closing stages.
Mandella said: "I just prayed she'd hold on and she did. She's got a lot of heart. Maturity is catching up with her, she's overcoming my training and here we are. She went out there and settled nice and fought them off."
Gomez added: "She was super relaxed and quickened really well every time I squeezed her. I got a little worried Executiveprivilege might come up to her, but she did her job."
