Cue Card: Impressive

Cue Card made a most taking debut over timber when justifying odds of 1-2 at Aintree on Sunday afternoon.

Winner of last season's Weatherbys Champion Bumper at Cheltenham, he was very keen for Joe Tizzard as they went a slow pace through the early stages of the EBF Bestway Novices' Hurdle.

He was still hard on the bridle when jumping to the front three out and was foot perfect at the next two obstacles.

Tizzard was able to spend most of the run-in looking round for non-existent dangers as his partner went on to slam Dear Sam by 13 lengths.

Cheltenham next stop

"He's exciting but there's a lot of responsibility that goes with it," said winning trainer Colin Tizzard.

"He has done everything we expected him to and we could look to all the good two-mile and two-and-a-half mile novice races.

"He could go to Cheltenham in three weeks' time as he hasn't taken anything out of himself."

William Hill were impressed by the performance and cut him to 7-1 favourite from 10-1 for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle back at Cheltenham in March.
