Green Destiny: Newbury winner

Green Destiny (2-1 fav) stayed on late in the day to land the Dubai Duty Free Arc Trial at Newbury.

The William Haggas-trained four-year-old had to be stoked along by Kieren Fallon some way from home but he picked up really well on the outside of the field and got up near the line.

Al Kazeem (7-2) committed for home with over two furlongs to run, but having fended off stablemate Sea Of Heartbreak (11-1), who went on to finish third, his hopes were cruelly dashed with 50 yards to run.

"He'll probably have a dart at the Champion Stakes now," said Haggas.

"My view was that if he could carry a penalty in this race against good horses, he'd be doing well. This is a good horse."

Winning jockey Fallon said: "He's got a real turn of foot and he really got me out of trouble there on the outside.

"He seems to like having some room to himself."

Passion For Gold set out to make all the running but was eventually well-held, whilst last-year's winner Dangerous Midge was under pressure before the turn for home and never looked like repeating his win of 12 months ago.

Victor Chandler cut Green Destiny from 20s to 16s for the Qipco Champion Stakes next month following his narrow win.
