Gordon Elliott: Trains Mount Benbulben
Mount Benbulben impressed when winning the Grade Two Irish Form Book 'Monksfield' Novice Hurdle at Navan.
The six year old son of Beneficial was driven out by Davy Condon to score by one and a half lengths to make the most of the 3lbs that he received from Rebel Fitz.
The runner-up made all of the running under Ruby Walsh and had the field on the stretch in the home straight.
Mount Benbulben, a 250,000 euro puchase after beating the ill-fated Lovethehigherlaw in a bumper, was the only one of the six opponents able to go with Rebel Fitz and overhauled Michael Winters' charge in the final 100 yards of the two and a half mile contest.
Condon was, however, given a three-day ban by the stewards for excessive use of his whip.
Elliott said: "He's a nice horse and he's very tough. He's got a fair engine and going further will be no problem.
"We'll look for something over Christmas for him and we'll see how he comes out of this race. We wouldn't go any shorter. He stays very well."
Sky Bet make the winner a 16-1 chance for both the Neptune and the Albert Bartlett at the Cheltenham Festival with Stan James going 14s and 12s for those races respectively.
