Reckless Abandon: Winner in France

English raiders dominated the finish of the Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte, with Reckless Abandon coming home a comfortable winner from Sir Prancealot.

The Clive Cox-trained winner had also been victorious in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot and maintained his unbeaten record with the minimum of fuss under a front-running ride from Gerald Mosse.

Ryan Moore produced Richard Hannon's Sir Prancealot, fourth in the Coventry Stakes, inside the final furlong and briefly looked a big threat, but Reckless Abandon (9-4 favourite) quickened up in fine style to put the race to bed.

Reckless Abandon had shown wayward tendencies on his previous two starts, and while he had the rail throughout, there was still a hairy moment when he tried to jink to his left, but Mosse stayed in the saddle.

Cox told At The Races: "I'm really pleased with the performance and delighted he's won for his owners.

"I wouldn't go as far as to say Gerald was never in any danger of coming off, but I'd agree that he does jink left a bit.

"It's something we're not familiar with at home but he's clearly very talented.

"That's the easiest race he's had and I'm over the moon.

"I would suggest we'll probably come back here for the Prix Morny next.

"I think he's extremely exciting. You get a knot in your stomach when he goes out on the track and today you can see why.''
