Duntle: Made it three wins from just five starts
Duntle ran on strongly to win the Group Three Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown over a mile on Thursday evening.
The Danehill Dancer filly hadn't been seen out since winning the Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot in June but showed the benefit of her mid-summer break with a three quarters of a length success.
Trained by David Wachman, she was held-up in the second half of the eight strong field as Requisition and Ballybacka Lady helped to force the pace.
The runners were stacking up behind that pair approaching the home turn with the uneasy favourite Takar towards the outside as they swung off the final bend towards the middle of the straight.
The front two had kicked off the turn and had a number of their rivals in trouble but Wayne Lordan had had every move covered and had been creeping steadily closer aboard the eventual winner.
With the weakening Requisition sticking towards the inside, Duntle took a while to get on top of Ballybacka Lady but always looked like doing enough.
This was a first win at this level for the three year old who has now won three of her five career starts.
Lordan said: "She travelled well. Although the ground is not ideal early on it's a bit better from the two-furlong marker to the line.
"She's done it OK, but will prefer better ground. Her heart is in the right place."
