The Fugue: Third after enduring tough trip through the race

The Fugue: Third after enduring tough trip through the race

Zagora won a dramatic Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf as favourite The Fugue ran out of luck down the home stretch.

John Gosden's charge was travelling strongly turning in but soon had nowhere to go with Javier Castellano taking decisive action aboard the winner to take a gap when it appeared.

In contrast William Buick could never find racing room aboard The Fugue who had to settle for third place with Marketing Mix filling the forecast spot.

Ridasiyna finished best of all down the centre of the track in fourth but never threatened to land a blow to the principals.

The David Simcock-trained I'm A Dreamer also failed to get a clear run through while Roger Varian's Nahrain and the Aidan O'Brien-trained Up were found wanting in the straight.

Winning trainer Chad Brown said: "This was her turn. She got the firm turf, she got the trip and she showed what she is today."

Buick felt The Fugue would have won with a clear run. He said: "They went a bit slow and I stuck on the inside. I was behind the winner but I never got any room until a furlong and a half out. I think she's very unlucky, but we live to fight another day."
