Ryan Moore: Won aboard George Vancouver
Ryan Moore timed his challenge on George Vancouver perfectly to land the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita.
The Aidan O'Brien-trained colt hugged the inside rail throughout and came through to take the lead from fellow-European raider Dundonnell in the straight.
Roger Charlton's charge didn't have anything like the dream passage the winner had throughout the race and as his challenge faded, George Vancouver stormed to victory.
Noble Tune finished second with Balance The Books in third.
Owner Michael Tabor, of the Coolmore triumvirate, said: "He's been waiting for this fast ground, and that really was the key.
"Everything's possible next season now.
"He's obviously a top-class horse and hopefully he'll go for all the big races.''
The Jeremy Noseda-trained Fantastic Moon missed the break and was rarely sighted.
Noseda said: "He pleased me, to a point.
"He missed the break, but there are no real excuses - he just didn't pick up."
Charlton was satisfied by Dundonnell's fourth-placed finish.
He said: "I was pleased. We all saw he ran very wide on the first bend, which took us by surprise, but James got him in a good position until he just faded in the 200 metres.
"He had every chance, but on the day he wasn't quite good enough."
Godolphin's Artigiano was unplaced, but connections felt he required a longer trip.
Trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni said: "He missed a beat at the start and the track was a bit tight for him.
"Frankie (Dettori, jockey) said he enjoyed the ground and that he needs further."
Ballydoyle's second string, Lines Of Battle, showed good early pace before drifting out of contention.
Jockey Richard Hughes said: "He got a good, early position from a tricky draw, but I didn't get home in the straight."
