Days Hotel: An impressive winner at Cork

Days Hotel defied an absence of over a year to run out an impressive winner of the Hilly Way Chase at Cork.

Henry de Bromhead's charge had won both career chase starts impressively but was having his first run of 2012 in the two mile Grade Two contest.

Racing in the second half of the field as Echo Bob and Realt Dubh traded blows at the head of affairs, he moved well for his jockey Phillip Enright but momentarily looked as though the lack of a run might tell in the closing stages.

However, the seven year old ran on gamely and had the race in the bag before jumping the last as Paul Carberry accepted defeat on Realt Dubh who had made several bad mistakes.

Days Hotel was perfect at the last, unlike his nearest pursuer, and stayed on strongly to record an impressive six length success.

The disappointment of the race was the Willie Mullins trained Blazing Tempo who weakened tamely out of contention having hit the front three from home.
