Sajjhaa wins under Silvestre de Sousa
Saeed bin Suroor's mare Sajjhaa ran out an impressive winner of the Dubai Duty Free to give Silvestre de Sousa a double on World Cup night in Meydan.
Three times a winner already at the Carnival, the six-year-old has finally fulfilled the promise she showed as a filly with the late Michael Jarvis, for whom she ran in the Oaks on just her second start.
De Sousa had earlier won on Cavalryman and always looked confident, streaking clear inside the final furlong and holding Mike de Kock's The Apache at bay.
Alain de Royer-Dupre's Giofra stayed on strongly for third. Jamie Spencer gave Trade Storm a patient ride but met some trouble in weaving a way through and had to settle for a staying-on fourth.
De Sousa said: "She travelled so smoothly in the race, I'm so pleased for my horse, she has got such a big heart.
"I was a bit worried about getting stuck on the outside but she got a lovely run through."
Bin Suroor said: "She's now won two Group Ones and it's brilliant to see her do that. I think we will take her back to England and find a race for her there but I don't know which one."
Spencer said of the David Simcock-trained Trade Storm: "I was delighted with the run but being drawn 14 is like having a 7lb penalty. If we'd had the luck of the draw we could have been a lot closer."
