Feel Like Dancing wins the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket

Feel Like Dancing (3/1) benefited from a sensible William Buick ride as he held off all challengers in the Bahrain Trophy, the opening contest at Newmarket's July meeting.

With Jamie Spencer setting a stop-start early pace in front on Boite, several of the field were struggling to settle into a rhythm.

Buick tried to keep his mount as close to the place as possible, and although he was one of the first to come under pressure when the pace suddenly quickened three furlongs from home, he responded gamely to hit the front over a furlong out and hold off Jathabah and the unlucky-in-running Havana Beat by a neck and a head.

"Jamie was playing with the pace, which is his right to do, but William felt it was time to get a move on," winning trainer John Gosden told Racing UK.

"He's come out of his race in the Queen's Vase well and this was a pleasing run - he pulled himself up a little when he got there, but he's stuck his neck out well when they came to him.

"[The St Leger] is an obvious place to head."

Sky Bet kept him unchanged at 14/1 for the Doncaster Classic.

"To be honest, I couldn't see any obvious frontrunners before the race and I kind of expected it, so I tried to put myself in a position where I wasn't going to get stuck in a pocket," added Buick.

"Every one he has had, he has learned something new and improved. I don't think he is ever going to be flashy, but he's still improving. He's a bit babyish and maybe a bit lazy, but he's game and sticks his head out."
