Sam Twiston-Davies: Partnered Bobowen in the Summer Plate
Bobowen was an impressive winner of the Betfred Summer Plate at Market Rasen under Sam Twiston-Davies.
Dr Richard Newland had fielded three runners in the race and the 8/1 chance brought the valuable Listed prize back to his Claines yard.
Stablemate, Paddy The Hare had plenty of friends in the betting and he lived up to his name as he jumped out exuberantly from the outset.
The hat-trick seeker was pestered by Buck Mulligan and Finger Onthe Pulse throughout, and the trio became sitting targets for the closers having set off at a generous pace.
Sam Twiston-Davies refused to panic and having sat off the speed, he produced his mount ahead of the last, and the pair soon had the race in safe keeping - passing the line nine lengths clear of the field.
Woolcombe Folly ran a fine race under a big weight to stay on into second place, with Finger Onthe Pulse clinging on for third from Dineur.
Dr Newland said: "It's the feature race of the summer season so this was a big win. Sam surprised us (by riding Bobowen) as he was probably the least in form of the three. Bobowen ran a great race. He has a great track record at Market Rasen and that is very important."
Next up for Bobowen could be a trip to Ireland for the Galway Plate towards the end of the month.
Dr Newland said: "That is a possibility. We will see how he comes out of this and whether he gets into the race, which he should with a penalty."
The well-backed Galaxy Rock got no further than the first fence where sadly, he suffered a fatal fall.
