Brown Sugar (left) gives generously for Pat Dobbs' urgings
Richard Hannon saddled a 1-2 in the bet365 Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood as Brown Sugar (8/1) got the better of Anticipated.
With the race staged at a predictably generous pace, Sleeper King and Majestic Alexander took them along through the first couple of furlongs but the son of Tamayuz managed to secure a dream passage down the centre of the track and having secured his run, he showed enough to repel the late thrust of his better fancied stablemate.
The pair were clear of Ambiance in third.
Winning rider Pat Dobbs said: "We went very quick for the first two furlongs and he didn't actually come down the hill very well, but he came back on the bridle when he got on the level ground.
"I didn't want to commit too soon as it's a long way home for these two-year-olds. He's a nice little horse."
Winning owner William De La Warr said: "I'm so chuffed. I can hardly speak. De La Warr Racing have had umpteen horses placed in Group races, but this is our first Group winner."
Hannon said: "Both horses were flat out all the way, as they went a good pace. Brown Sugar got it all wrong at Newmarket and he could go back up to six (furlongs) if he needed to.
"The second is a good horse too and in another couple of strides he'd have got there.
"I'm pleased the horses are running well."
Well supported favourite, Supplicant, was not able to go the early pace and was unable to secure a clear run on the leaders.
