Belle De Crecy leads Hot Snap over the line

Belle De Crecy (16/1) was a surprise winner of the Lanwades Stud Blandford Stakes at the Curragh.

The market suggested that the Group Two was a match between the highly regarded pair Hot Snap and Alive Alive Oh but the Johnny Murtagh trained and ridden filly upstaged them both.

The four year old received a positive ride from Murtagh, taking up the running two furlongs from home after Shirocco Star weakened tamely, and had just enough petrol left in the tank to keep the closing pack at bay.

Hot Snap (5/4f) finished a length and three quarters adrift in second with Magical Dream third but Alive Alive Oh proved a bitter disappointment and was eased down with over a furlong to run.

The winner was turning out again after finishing fourth to The United States at Leopardstown last weekend and her trainer felt that the run had done her good.

"She probably just blew up a bit last week and I really fancied her today", he revealed. "Niall (McCullagh) rode her yesterday morning and he said she was in great form. She's got great heart and a great pedigree.

"She has done nothing but improve from day one and her sister stayed a mile and six. I'm not sure if she will run again this year but she is so tough and comes out of her races so well you'd never know."
