Murphy: Cup winner
Highland Colori gave rising star Oisin Murphy the biggest winner of his career to date when he ran away with the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup.
The 20/1 shot burst clear on the stands' side rail in the final furlong to record a two and a quarter length victory from the David O'Meara-trained Louis The Pious.
Andrew Balding's five-year-old was just touched off the Ayr Silver Cup last year but made no mistake this time around and Murphy was quick to praise the trainer for the victory.
"That was unbelievable," said Murphy.
"I've got to thank the boss and the owner for giving me the opportunity. I thought a furlong out that I could be swallowed up from those coming behind but he's so game and when I pulled him through, he's tried really hard.
"He was rated 70 or lower when Andrew got him and now he's rated around 100 - the trainer's done a great job.
"When I came here this morning, I was hoping I might get a winner but thought it was more likely to be John Quinn's in the last.
"You dream about things like this and just hope they happen from time to time. My aim is to keep improving and hopefully days like this will get more frequent."
