Wonderful Charm: Completed his hat-trick over fences

Paul Nicholls' fine meeting continued as Wonderful Charm won the Fuller's London Pride Novices' Chase at Newbury.

The Ditcheat handler has now saddled doubles on each of the first two days of the Hennessy Gold Cup meeting with the Daryl Jacob-ridden 8/11 favourite complementing the earlier success of Calipto.

In truth, his task in this Grade Two contest proved straightforward after principal market rival Tanerko Emery took a crashing fall early on the final circuit but there was still a good deal to like about the performance.

Up To Something ensured that this was run at a good gallop but all three remaining runners were within touching distance halfway up the home straight.

One or two sketchy leaps from The Romford Pele presumably took their toll as he dropped off the pace but Up To Something and Wonderful Charm jumped the last together.

A shake of the reins from Jacob was all that it required for the five year old to put the race to bed with the winning distance a cosy six lengths.

Winning owner Robin Geffen said: "He wasn't right after the World Hurdle, so he had a second breathing operation in the summer. He's jumping better and better, and I think at this stage two and a half miles is perfect.

"I'd be looking at the Jewson and then Aintree.

"I'd like to go for the Scilly Isles at Sandown (next), but if the ground goes too heavy he won't run. He's got enough experience not to worry about running if it turns muddy in the winter."
