Gibbons: Pleased with Tarooq's performance
Tarooq smashed the six-furlong course record at Lingfield as he convincingly claimed a decent payday for new connections.
Making his second start for David Barron, he took the £28,000-plus first prize of the Compare Bookmakers at bookmakers.co.uk Handicap by a length and a half.
Off the pace in the early stages as Addictive Dream cut out a decent early gallop,
Graham Gibbons brought the 7/1 winner with a brave-looking run up the inside rail, but once he saw daylight he quickly burst clear.
The likes of Hoof It and Lancelot Du Lac both looked to have every chance, but it was left to Hawkeyethenoo (5/1) to produce his customary late rattle to grab the runner-up spot.
Tarooq was winning for the 10th time in his career and may return to Lingfield for the final of the sprint event at All-Weather Championships Finals Day on Good Friday.
"He takes a while to warm up in his races but he knows his way round here," Gibbons told At The Races.
"You can't rush him off his feet, you have to let them come to him, but they played into his hands a bit when they went off at a good gallop.
"I knew he'd come on for his first run from us, but he's quite smart round here, isn't he? I think this is another step up from him."
