JP McManus: Owns the first two home in the Eider

Wyck Hill beat Smoking Aces to ensure a one-two for owner JP McManus in the Betfred Eider Chase at Newcastle.

Both horses were well backed for the 4m1f marathon in heavy ground, with the runner-up sent off the 6/1 favourite following late support.

However, it was Wyck Hill (9/1) who travelled into the race best of all under Tom Scudamore and he had enough in the tank to repel the familiar late charge from Smoking Aces.

In a slow-motion finish Ballypatrick (10/1) was third with Safran De Cotte (7/1) fourth.

Sky Bet cut the winner to 25/1 for the Crabbies Grand National.
