Gaillimh A Chroi was a brave winner
Irish raider Gaillimh A Chroi was a brave winner of the EBF Stallions/TBA Mares' Standard Open NH Flat Race at Sandown.
The 9/2 winner looked to be in trouble when Tara Mist (7/2 joint-favourite) loomed up to challenge two furlongs out but found plenty for pressure to fend off that rival.
There was little between the pair at the furlong pole but the John Queally-trained winner, who was briefly headed, rallied gamely under a forceful Noel Fehily ride and was back in front 100 yards from the finish.
She wasn't to be denied from there and went on score by three-quarters of a length.
It was a further six lengths back to Ballyhollow (10/1) in third.
The winning trainer John Queally said: "She won well at Gowran Park last time and needs soft ground, so we chanced coming here in the hope that she'd get placed and some black type.
"She would have won a point to point but we found she was in season afterwards and she's had a hard race here, so we might put her away. She'll jump a fence."
