Stand Guard: Had to settle for second
Stand Guard was thwarted in his bid to extend his record number of all-weather victories to 27 at Southwell.
John Butler's 10-year-old had to play second fiddle behind Back Burner (14-1) in the Coral App Download From The App Store Claiming Stakes.
Adrian Nicholls sent the six-year-old into the lead two furlongs out after Licence To Till had made the running and virtually had the race won from there.
Stand Guard put in a decent challenge under Tom Queally but could never get to grips with Back Burner who went on to score by four lengths.
"He ran a very creditable race. I think he ran up to form. We knew it was a better race," Butler told At The Races.
"We'll see how he is tomorrow. There will be no snap decisions about retiring him. He'll make the decision for us.
"We might give him two or three weeks off. There's a race for him back here in June. I might just put him in the paddocks for a few weeks and then decide about whether to run him in June. That's probably when we'll make the decision."
