Verdict

Cristoforo Colombo and Lines Of Battle both won on their respective debuts at Navan and the Curragh and represent Ballydoyle, who this last year with Power. But the Hannon team are usually mob-handed in this Group 2 contest and normally have at least one above-average colt in the line-up. They have four entries this year, aiming to add to the yard's victories in 2009 and 2010, and SIR PRANCEALOT could be the one this time. Sandown's National Stakes is normally a decent pointer to the Royal meeting and the Tamayuz colt beat Top Boy by more than four lengths in that without being asked a serious question. Dawn Approach has to go on the short-list having won all three starts while Indian Jade impressed when beating the odds-on New Pearl at Pontefract and his earlier win at Beverley has been franked. Artigiano was only third to Funk Soul Brother at York but improved to win at Leicester, though more is needed here, and Funk Soul Brother's stable companion Englishman has to step up on his victory over 5f at Newbury to figure. Heavy Metal couldn't land the hat-trick at Epsom and may also struggle.
