Verdict

The amount of talent that Aidan O'Brien has at his disposal must leave him frustrated in trying to find suitable opportunities for all the horses under the his care at Ballydoyle. O'Brien had a number of options open to him with Marino Marini and it should be noted that he has taken this route with the Storm Cat colt, rather than an attempt at the Coventry Stakes with him. His breading suggests that he will handle the firmer ground and, although he is not likely to represent much in the way of value, he will be hard to beat. The Bonus King has done nothing wrong and is a viable alternative as he bids to add to his progressive profile. The Lord has also given a good account of himself so far and showed a good turn of foot when winning the Brocklesby at Doncaster. Mazepa hails from an in-form yard and met a very useful form book yardstick here last time. He should give the O'Brien horse the most to do - although Baron's Pit should not be too quickly ruled out after taking a Conditions race at Windsor last time.
