In depth

Verdict

TRUMPET VOLUNTARY was totally unfancied on his debut at Carlisle but ran on strongly to land the spoils after running green in the early stages. He can only improve and, as Richard Fahey has a good record in this contest, looks the one to beat today. Chooseday tackles this ground for the first time but wasn't disgraced on his handicap debut at Haydock and looks the pick of Kevin Ryan's two runners, while it will be interesting to see how Redcar winner Deepsand copes with the step up in grade. Act Your Shoe Size was biting off more than he could chew at York last time but has winning form on a soft surface and should do a lot better here.
