In depth

Verdict

EDGE OF TOWN started favourite on his debut for a Uttoxeter bumper that is working out ok and he is selected here in preference to Lannacombe Clover, Lough Inchiquinn, Jubilee Queen and Spring Haze who are just several who make some degree of appeal in an open finale. The selection started at 9/4 at Uttoxeter but could only manage third behind Benbane Boy. That horse has since run well under his penalty and whilst nothing else has come out and franked the form, it is still early days. His jockey is good value for his claim and a big run is expected. Lough Inchiquinn, a half-brother to the useful Gumley Gale, ran well in defeat last time at the track. He has ability but it remains to be seen whether this track plays to his strengths, especially the short run-in. Of David Pipe's duo, the most obvious looks to be Jubilee Queen ridden by Johnny Farrelly; the mare is a half-sister to Fundamentalist. Any support for the newcomers should be noted, whilst of the others to have raced, the best form is held by Lannacombe Clover. Admittedly his debut came 300 days ago but he ran well to finish second to Nono Le Sage and whilst he will improve for jumping an obstacle, he could run well today. A tricky end to the card but the vote goes to Edge Of Town.
