Verdict

Jun Fan can have no excuses from the draw and is a tentative selection in a wide open contest. Sands Crooner, Kings College Boy and Dark Champion are others that spearhead a shortlist of contenders for the places. Dark Champion is consistent and does try his heart out. However, he is also extremely hard to win with, as he always seems to find a few better off at the weights. Still, he has fair claims in this company and can go close. Kings College Boy was just ahead of the selection when he won here last month. He has held his form well since then and deserves plenty of respect. Still, it is worth bearing in mind he was drawn 17 for his Beverley success and will not find it so easy from the 2 box today. Sands Crooner arrives here in great heart and the form of his latest start was given a solid boost at Ascot at the weekend. He does have a bit more on his plate today and needs to pull out all the stops if he is to finally gain that elusive first success on turf. Therefore, it can be worth chancing a small stakes play with Jun fan, whose yard has hit form with a vengeance during the last fortnight. The Brian Ellison-trained gelding has plenty of speed and is ideally berthed to put the rest to the sword this afternoon.
