        Verdict

        Mandurah gets a speculative vote over Pretty Selma, Moonlight Applause and Back In The Red to name but a few in a tricky finale. In truth nothing stands out much, but in the hope that Mandurah will come on for his recent return to action at Wolverhampton, Dandy Nicholls' charge is selected. Off the track since finishing last of six at Musselburgh in August, he fared much better at Dunstall Park, getting to within two-lengths of the winner Nordic Light. It may turn out then that he is not too badly treated in handicaps, and this is not a great race. Pretty Selma has improved for the fitting of blinkers lately, but her best efforts have been on Southwell's Fibresand surface, and it remains to be seen how she will cope on this faster terrain. Moonlight Applause is going the right way, and makes more appeal than stablemate Seaton Snooks, while of the rest, Back In The Red is worth a mention with cheekpieces on for the first time. Bets are best kept to the minimum here though, with Mandurah the pick.
