In depth

Verdict

If any of these deserve a victory it is Alchemist Master who is chosen to beat Pays d'Amour, and Extinguisher. Richard Whitaker's five-year-old hasn't visited the winners enclosure for almost eighteen months but has gone close on numerous occasions this season. His most recent effort behind the well treated Goodbye Mr Bond makes good reading and we expect another bold showing. Pays d'Amour and Extinguisher both hail from the prolific David Nicholls yard. The former was successful at Doncaster in March and a decent run at Newcastle last time could herald a form revival. Extinguisher paid for a decent two-year-old campaign with a handicap mark in the nineties. Just three years later he is down in the fifties and having shown glimpses of ability he could be ready to pounce. Best of the rest could be recent victor Smart Minister, but we expect Alchemist Master to strike gold.
