In depth

Verdict

Old favourite, Bishops Court heads the weights but with five furlongs his optimum trip, he is regretfully passed over today. Kieren Fallon takes the mount on Monkston Point and the hint is taken to switch allegiances to the Arbuthnot charge. He would probably prefer it if the rain arrived before post time but there is a lot to like about him on balance. Smokin Beau has been running in all the top sprints this season and today is his debut for Nick Littmoden. He is a live contender on the book and may be capable of further improvement. Any market move for Funfair Wane would be interesting given David Nicholls' current purple patch. Damalis and Vita Spericolata fought out this race last year but they have yet to sparkle this term.
