In depth

Verdict

The eye is drawn to Tawny Port as he seeks a fourth straight success, having completed the three-timer in fine fashion at Hamilton last month. He's not ground dependent but does step up to 7f for the first time, although his running style suggests he'll not prove inconvenienced by the longer trip. He does go up a grade though and THOMAS CRANMER is just preferred as he showed tremendous gameness when scoring here last time and has Chester specialist, Franny Norton, in the plate. The one concern is that he may get involved in a front-running battle with Arc Royal from a yard that do well here with juveniles and therefore stakes should remain conservative. Stable companion of the selection, Morning Suit, completes the shortlist as he'll appreciate 7f and looks on a fair mark.
