Verdict

One of the better races on the card where most of the leading players have to put a poor run behind them and the one who can do so to best effect is SAGALYRIQUE, while there is no shortage of willing opponents. The Alan King-trained selection looked very decent when landing a Taunton handicap chase in fine style back in December, but he then ran flat at Exeter next time when sent off favourite. He can go well fresh, so we hope that the short break will be ideal for him and he can score over this, his optimum trip. Le Roi Rouge fell too early last time to be able to tell how he would have handled his current mark of 124, to which he was raised after a Wetherby win in December. Even if he is over that, this faster ground won't be in his favour and we'll take him on. Salut Flo is an interesting British debutant whose French form is hard to equate, but there are enough wins to his name to suggest ability and if supported he would be very interesting. Sheriff Hutton goes well when there is good in the going description. He was in-form in the autumn, but has to put a dismal Kempton effort behind him today. Soulard has a solid, if unspectacular profile, while Professor Higgins has not been seen since October, but shouldn't be found wanting for fitness and acts well on a sound surface. He has to prove his stamina over this trip, and preference is for Sagalyrique.
