    Verdict

These backend maidens are never ideal betting opportunities, but Divine Gift has certainly shown enough to suggest he can win a race like this and is probably the one to beat; he is preferred to Catalini, while Bunyah and Joking apart may prove best of the newcomers. Bunyah is a daughter of Distant View who is a half-sister to several winners and any money for Ed Dunlop's filly could be significant. Barry Hills saddles a couple here and again the betting should reflect their relative merits, but on breeding Joking Apart, a Rainbow Quest half-sister to the great Fantastic Light, certainly makes plenty of appeal. Mick Channon¿s Catalini put up a good show over course and distance a fortnight ago, but has since been slightly disappointing at Redcar and is probably worth opposing. We do so with Divine Gift, who was beaten at odds-on at Ayr last month, but Michael Jarvis' colt may well have run into a smart newcomer that day. Divine Gift had already advertised his ability when second to the smart Old Deuteronomy on his debut at Newmarket, and he is fancied to score a deserved first win here.
