Verdict

Three-year-olds more than hold their own against the older fillies in this Group 2 and Abingdon looked ready for a test like this when returning to winning ways over 1m4f at York. California kept on well to beat Tioga Pass, stablemate Mill Springs and Pamona in a Group 3 over a similar trip at Goodwood in July so goes on the short-list. Simple Verse returns to the scene of her greatest triumph in last year's St Leger. She won another Group 1 at Ascot later but her three runs this year have not been up that standard. Pretty Perfect has run in Group 1 company since winning a Group 3 at Cork so should appreciate this slightly easier task but Alyssa, a stable-companion of Pamona and Simple Verse, steps up from Class 4 handicaps and could be found wanting. Forever Popular has possible each-way claims but this trip could bring out the best in CARNACHY. She finished last in the Lancashire Oaks in July and only beat one home at Deauville last month but had excuses on both occasions having looked much improved in the spring.
