In depth

Verdict

A wide open handicap here and many can be given chances on their best form but the principals look to be Ridge Boy, Pickle, Maren and Carry On Doc and the tentative vote goes to Ridge Boy. The selection Liberty Royal last time out he runs of the same mark here and with conditions in his favour he is taken to score. Pickle rates the main danger on his best form but he ran as if the handicapper had caught up with him when disappointing behind Porthcawl last time and for that reason he is passed over. Maren has been disappointing this season but he would have a chance on his maiden win of last season. However although he is dropping in the weights he may need to drop further before he gets his head in front. Carry On Doc is another that would have a chance on his best form but he ran badly behind Mr Velocity last time. Epsom form is often a significant pointer in these races and Desert Reign had no fewer than six subsequent winners behind him when winning a maiden handicap over course and distance in July. Not disgraced on his only other start at Kempton he looks a back danger back at this trip. The selection's stablemate, Lord Links, has slipped to a handy mark and could go well at a price but the booking of Ryan Moore suggests that Ridge Boy is the one to be on today.
