Verdict

There have been only two winning favourites in ten years but one was trained by Andre Fabre and punters should look no further than Getaway. The French maestro sent out Shirocco to win the Jockey Club Stakes and this race in 2006 and Getaway can do the same before ending his season with another crack at the Arc. He had form up to two miles last year before his close fourth in the Longchamp showpiece and certainly didn't give the impression of being a stayer when slamming Sixties Icon at Newmarket. The runner-up may have been in need of the race that day but has looked back to his best this season and was no match for the winner whilst Tranquil Tiger and Balkan Knight have both done their bit for the form. Soldier Of Fortune was only half a length behind the selection in October but lacks a run whereas the late developing Macarthur was impressive in the Ormonde Stakes; Song Of Hiawatha is likely to be employed as a pacemaker but riding arrangements have yet to be confirmed. Arc second Youmzain is regularly underestimated and we're prepared to overlook him again, along with Papal Bull who may not be seen to best effect on this track. Red Rocks won nicely last time despite having to abandon his usual tactics but he's come up short at this level before and we readily prefer the claims of the French raider, GETAWAY
