In depth

Verdict

Putra Kuantan can put his younger rivals in the shade, the best of them likely to be Red Racketeer and Hypnotic. After scoring over a mile at Sandown last May, Putra Kuantan has more or less been kept to that trip since, but has failed to add to his tally. Connections then decided to put him back over 10 furlongs with cheekpieces applied at Ripon last time and the move nearly paid off as he stuck to his task stoutly behind Wahoo Sam. Although he has to give seven-pounds to his younger opponents today, a similar effort should see him get back to winning ways. Red Racketeer has been a model of consistency this term, scoring at Windsor and Ripon, and as the combination of soft ground and 12 furlongs seemed to find him out at Ayr, conditions here should help his cause. Hypnotic looked strong when making all at Yarmouth last time but that was in claiming company and he will have to step up another gear now, while both Pevensey and Shannon Springs need to improve on their respective runs at York to figure. Putra Kuantan caught the eye with his latest effort and can go one better.
