In depth

Verdict

Phareight Dei is selected ahead of Jam Packed and Radnor Lad is a modest contest that will be gruelling test of stamina on the anticipated ground. Radnor Lad has bits and pieces of form that suggest he can play a part this afternoon. However, he carries 7lb extra for his Hereford win from last month and needs everything to fall into place for him today. he also needs to conclusively prove that heavy ground is ideal for him. Jam Packed shapes as if he is suited by a test of stamina and has a solid chance on these terms. With Tony McCoy doing the steering, the gelding is sure to be a popular choice, but the support would not be arriving without foundation and a bold bid looks to be assured. However, Phareight Dei has already proved himself capable over this trip on testing ground and, as he has fewer questions to answer than most the Ian Williams-trained gelding gets the nod.
