In depth

Verdict

A very ordinary contest can go to Magical Speedfit, who is preferred over Never Catcher and Midnite Blews, while debutante Heroic Fool is introduced at a modest level and does not need to be out of the ordinary to take this by the scuff of the neck. The last named is bred to get a little further but can only learn from this belated introduction. His yard has done well with a small number of runners of late, so market confidence would be interesting to note. Midnite Blews has poor form to his name and is very hard to recommend. He only gets a mention because there are only four runners declared. Never Catcher also needs to improve on what he has shown so far, but he is less exposed and it is feasible he can pick up a race like this somewhere along the line. Nevertheless, Magical Speedfit makes the most appeal on the evidence available. Having reached a rating of 82 from his efforts last season, the son of Bold Fact now has a solid chance back in maiden company. The handicapper has given him a chance for the start of the campaign and this appears to be the time to side with Magical Speedfit before we switch our attention on to better things.
