Swainson can outstay them all here, including Sweet Medicine, Kiama, Trew Style and Beauchamp Trump. Swainson looked a horse to follow when opening his account on the Lingfield Polytrack two years ago, but has in truth been hard to place since. However, he shaped more like his old self there last month when he would perhaps have won had more use been made of him. He is rated some 20lb below his mark of two years ago, and the combination of a step up in trip and in-form Ryan Moore in the saddle should ensure that he goes close today. Sweet Medicine has been placed on each of her three Flat starts to date, and has the assistance of Jamie Spencer for her handicap debut, so has place claims, while Kiama was a beaten favourite at Southwell last time. Her stable is not in the best of form either, but the fact that she makes the long journey down means that she is another that cannot be ruled out entirely. Trew Style ran well to finish third in a Newmarket maiden last May, while Beauchamp Trump has a chance on his Goodwood victory over two miles last September. There are many ifs and buts, with just a narrow vote going to Swainson.
