In depth

Verdict

Granite Man is selected ahead of Thenford Star and Friendly Request. Jonjo O'Neill's team are always worth a look at this time of year and with fast ground obtaining, he looks to have every chance of building upon a fair reappearance effort over hurdles against better horses. Thenford Star looked a useful prospect during her bumpers. Her better form has been with cut in the ground but she has to be considered as this is a weak affair. Friendly Request is more exposed than most but needs to avoid the jumping errors that have blighted previous rounds. September Moon is an out-and-out stayer but has shown little since leaving Evan Williams. Even Flo is capable if modest whilst Golly has proved hard to win with but should appreciate this faster surface. It is always dangerous to get too heavily involved on fencing debuts but Granite Man looks a fair call given Tony McCoy's presence in the plate.
