Kandidate showed that he is just as effective on turf as the all-weather when successful at Sandown last time but a penalty for that success leaves Clive Brittain's colt with more to do and a chance is taken with the reappearing Melrose Avenue, who is preferred to Crosspeace. The last mentioned is another that has a penalty to carry having won a Listed race at Doncaster last term and, although he came back to form here on Tuesday, Mark Johnston's colt is strictly held by Kandidate on Sandown form. Admiral's Cruise, another with a penalty to carry, cannot be ruled out but preference is for Melrose Avenue, who lacks a previous run this term but can be expected to be fit enough for his return and, provided that he is, Godolphin's colt may well be good enough in receipt of weight.
