Verdict

History shows that experience is key in this maiden and our vote therefore goes to GOLDEN HINDE, who is taken to improve past Straight Line and give Mark Johnston back-to-back victories in the race; Barney Rebel and Big Issue may head the rest. Our pick cost 95,000gns and is a half-brother to a 7f winning juvenile. He showed up well for a long way on his introduction at Redcar and while the form hasn't been tested yet runners from the yard tend to improve for their debuts. The Red Ransom colt is entered in the Group Two Champagne Stakes and can show why by landing this. Straight Line was held on to at Ascot last time and that appeared to suit the 89-rated colt, who has come up against some crack two-year-olds this term and deserves to get off the mark soon. He sets the standard after that career-best especially with Fallon back in the saddle but is surely vulnerable to an improver. Of the others to have raced Welsh Dancer is of some appeal on his debut form but has to put behind him an abject display while Pabusar attracted plenty of support ahead of his first start to suggest he's better than he showed, but in truth newcomers Barney Rebel and Big Issue make more appeal. The former represents a yard whose juveniles have found top gear lately and is the son of smart sprinting juvenile Holy Roman Emperor, while Big Issue's sales price increased markedly and he's from a lovely family. Both need market checks along with well-entered Fists And Stones, but the experience of Golden Hinde can prove decisive.
