Verdict

Pires produced a fine effort when runner-up to the classy The Real Article at Down Royal on Friday and if none the worse for those exertions will be a major threat to all. Wee Giant ran poorly at Punchestown early last month but the race may have come too soon after he made a promising reappearance at Ballinrobe a few days earlier. Mejd showed his first sign of ability over hurdles at Sedgefield, though this is much tougher, while Time Machine doesn't win often enough. Luddsdenene has been found wanting in handicaps after his maiden success but Chebona Bula is entitled to respect as he won on the Flat at Clonmel last month and should be capable of better over timber. CLARACH took a long time to lose her maiden tag but has run well in a strong Ballinrobe handicap subsequently and is probably still on a fair enough mark to take this.
