Verdict

Always Waining gets the call here ahead of Smart John and Millennium Hall. Smart John is on the up and runs quickly after a good effort at Pontefract. He ran there as though he is ready for a step up in trip and, still looking reasonably handicapped, can go well. His stablemate Merrymaker has to defy a rise of five pounds for his narrow Ayr win. Prince Holing has chances if getting back to his best three-year-old form. Lord Dundee won a maiden here for Henry Cecil two years ago but it's difficult to now how much ability he retains following injury. Colophony also won his maiden here and ought not to be too badly handicapped but showed something last time and might improve again for the step up to 12 furlongs. Always Waining also won his maiden here and, judging by his win at Chepstow last time, looks to be progressive, while Millennium Hall's winning run came to an end last time and he now has an eight-pound rise to defy from his latest success. Yankeedoodledandy has been doing his winning on the all-weather but would hold a chance if being able to transfer that form to Turf. Once again, then, the selection is Always Waining.
