Verdict

There are doubts about many of the field here, not least because many of them save their best form for an all-weather surface. We're going to side with those drawn high once again, and Soba Jones is fancied to go well at a good each-way price, with Up Tempo, Bodfari Pride and CD Flyer also on the shortlist. CD Flyer has contested some fair races this season and tends to finish with a flourish. The handicapper has dropped him a pound since his recent fourth at Bath and he should be thereabouts here. Bodfari Pride tends only to win in selling and claiming grade, but has been running consistently lately and is another who should not be too far away at the finish. He was less than half a length behind Up Tempo at Hamilton last time, and Tim Easterby's gelding seemed to improve for the fitting of a visor that day. Although on an extremely long losing run, he is fairly weighted and has claims, but we think Soba Jones, who led for a long way at Hamilton, is possible value here coming out of stall 18. A winner at Wolverhampton in February, his best turf form came when he finished a close fourth at Doncaster in a handicap that has thrown up several subsequent winners, including Fire Up The Band. Soba Jones will like this ground, races off the same mark as Doncaster and is worth a small each-way bet in this difficult race.
