In depth

Verdict

A competitive handicap hurdle to solve and plenty of value should be available for punters to source. No prizes for originality as SPRING DREAM is the selection to win and follow-up her workmanlike win of three weeks ago where she took full advantage of what appeared a lenient mark of 101. Having concluded the flat season winning comfortably off a mark of 80, if she continues on an upward curve even a 10lb rise for her Folkestone win leaves her remaining well treated here. Her jumping was sloppy at times but her flat speed came to rescue her and a flat track like this should suit her. Oldrik looked to throw away a race winning opportunity at Wincanton last week and could not be supported with any confidence on that basis. He travelled into the race very strongly though and a fast run race where he can pass horses, doing as much as possible on the bridle are his ideal race winning tactics. Subsequent events have showed that Argento Luna was beaten by a smart mare in Over Sixty at Southwell. The form of her hurdle debut has solid form-lines with the second previously winning a Cheltenham maiden hurdle which has worked out exceptionally well. The novice Zahra's Palace scored for the first time since her bumper last time out at Leicester. Her form behind Whiteoak was franked in no uncertain terms at Cheltenham in March and she is clearly a mare of some ability. Galilean is a very interesting debutant for David Pipe. Formerly trained by Jim Bolger and Eoin Griffin, he flat rating stated he was verging on listed class on the level and although he was disappointing when reverting to hurdling. That said, the form of his Navan third last time after which he was dismounted quickly has worked out well with the fourth and fifth since scoring. Market support for handicap debutant Manjam should be noted. He has shown nothing in terms of ability on his three starts but Paddy Brennan rides off 10 stone which is very noteworthy. Spring Dream has shown herself to have her quirks in the past but she is very capable and can land her second victory of the season.
