In depth

Verdict

A very tough finale and we just side with The Big Canadian ahead of Wenlocks Wonder and Basic Fact. Alan King's six-year-old has been knocking on the door all season and put in another solid effort behind Willam Bonney at Cheltenham last time out. He would have got a lot closer to that rival but for being hampered at the second last and with the extra distance in his favour today he looks the one to beat. Wenlocks Wonder was given plenty to do last time behind Busy Isit and is better judged on his previous run when a close second to Kickahead. Basic Fact is proving quite hard to win with and is getting no respite from the handicapper but he could still play a major role. Meanwhile The Wooden Spoon is no forlorn hope on the pick of last season's form. All in all it is a race where caution is advised but The Big Canadian does appear to be the safest option.
