An interesting maiden on paper with several unexposed sorts representing strong yards as well as a couple of interesting newcomers, from which we select ELATION to make a winning debut ahead of Zubova and Thistlestar. Mark Johnston's well bred daughter of Cape Cross has landed a fair draw in stall seven and with the stable continuing in fine form she should be capable of going close here. Six furlongs would appear to be the bare minimum for the filly but she should have enough speed to cope and get off to the perfect start under Greg Fairley. Zubova represents Richard Hannon and looks the strongest of those with form in the book having gained an official rating of 73 from her four starts. The last of those came over five furlongs where she was readily outpaced behind a couple of decent looking sorts but back at six today this well-related filly must go close to breaking her duck with Richard Hughes in the plate. Thistlestar has had just the one start to date, that effort coming over seven at Ayr back in September. Richard Fahey's filly was keen that day and struggled to get home and so today's drop down to six furlongs looks a good move and if Paul Hanagan can get her settled this time she can leave behind that pretty modest debut form. Caramelita is beginning to look exposed despite having run to a decent level of form so far and so a bigger threat may come from another newcomer Hanbelation who is bred to make a speedy two year old whilst Key Light should come on for her debut over course and distance. Not a bad maiden for the time of year and we'll take Elation to put a smile on the faces of her backers.
