In depth

Verdict

Daytona may be up to making a winning debut against the likes of Esteem Machine, Resplendent Ace and Endiamo. Quite a few of these could turn out to be better than the average all-weather performer, and on what we have seen of Mark Johnston's less exposed inmates of late, Daytona may fit the bill. Owned by Sheikh Mohammed, the son of Indian Ridge cost the princely sum of 360,000 euros, and is related to plenty of winners, including Indian Sabre. He should adapt to the Polytrack on breeding, and is one to follow over the coming months. Esteem Machine still looked very green when third to the useful Fustaan on his debut here a fortnight ago, and will be fancied to go close here. Fustaan's trainer Marcus Tregoning saddles Endiamo who, like the selection, is by Indian Ridge. He had three outings on Turf last year and will be all the better for this, his all-weather bow. Resplendent Ace finished to good effect when overcoming a slow start to be runner-up on his introduction here in December, and can be expected to go well, while Eddie Ahern will emerge from the one box on newcomer Faithful Ruler. Nordic Light will in all probability need the run, and a bigger danger may be Emerald Wilderness if anywhere near fit. He should by now have learnt to settle better, and should be noted in the market. In what could be an interesting contest with an eye to the future, we lean towards Daytona to make an immediate impact.
