In depth

Verdict

UK raiders have enjoyed plenty of success in recent years. John Gosden won this with Debussy in 2009 and runs Sandown's Classic Trial winner WESTERN HYMN. He lost his unbeaten record at Epsom when failing to act on the track in the Derby but can return to winning ways in this. He has the beating of Rod Millman's Master Carpenter on Sandown form and the latter subsequently got the better of Army Bulletin at Chantilly. But Shamkiyr looks a real threat ahead of stablemate Ashkannd on his second in the French Derby behind The Grey Gatsby and is also preferred to Norse Prize.
