In depth

Verdict

BARBECUE EDDIE had a brilliant Carnival earlier this year which culminated in a victory in a lucrative handicap. He reappeared a month ago to gain a smooth victory over Treble Jig and shows no sign of slowing down despite his age. He holds a couple of verdicts over Canwinn and should take care of that one again while the useful and consistent Haatheq was behind last time and appears unlikely to reverse the form. Rutland Boy went from strength to strength last winter but is taking on better quality rivals here and Tamaathul, a classy performer for Barry Hills, has been disappointing since a fine debut on this track a year ago behind Canwinn, though it would be no surprise to see him do better after a summer's break.
